The UPSC NDA is an examination held by the Union Public Service Commission to provide opportunities to young people in the country who wish to the esteemed defence forces of India.Written examination and Intelligence & Personality Test will be used to select candidates for induction in the prestigious defence academies in India  through the NDA Exam 2023.

A candidate who qualifies the written exam will be invited to take a personality test to assess his or her intelligence and personality. To be included on the merit list, candidates must pass both phases. UPSC will compile a merit list/final result based on the combined score of the Written Exam and the SSB will be considered for ultimate selection.

The written exam comprises of two papers i.e., Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). Mathematics section can be a deciding factor of your success or failure in clearing the NDA written exam.

The Mathematics paper’s overall difficulty level is low to moderate. The questions were mostly formulaic. A significant number of questions were asked from Progression and Series.

As a result, it is critical for students to be well-versed in the topic in order to be able to ace questions easily. Some Progression and Series questions might be difficult and time-consuming, while others can be simple. The key to acing this section is to rapidly determine if a question is solvable or not, and to avoid wasting time on questions that are extremely difficult.

On that note, let’s discuss how to prepare progression and series to ace these questions in the NDA written exam.

Progression and Series Study Plan NDA

Level-I

To begin, learn the basic concepts and tricks of calculation so you can apply them quickly to questions.

One of the most important topics in the NDA mathematics section is progressions, and many of the questions may be answered using basic formulae. To avoid making stupid mistakes, it’s critical to understand the principles.

Qualities of Arithmetic Progression, Geometric Progression,Harmonic Progression, Nth term and the sum of AP and GP, and properties of arithmetic, geometric, and harmonic mean are some significant ideas to focus on.

Because there is a chance that the exam questions may be direct questions based on the concept, it is a good idea to comprehend the basic concepts of Series and Progression.

Level-II

Put the formulas on a piece of paper and post them somewhere where you can see them every day. It will help you remember formulas such as the harmonic mean formula.

Questions based on a combination of A.P. and G.P., for example, may also need knowledge of trigonometry, logarithms, geometry, and other math topics. If you do not adequately prepare in these areas, you will be unsure how to proceed in the exam. As a result, in order to design and learn how to use progression, you must practise several questions.

Solving previous years’ papers will make these questions much easier to answer.

Level-III

Since so many questions are based on topics that have already been covered in previous defence exams, make sure you review all of the Progression questions from previous years’ exams.

Spend time each day on quantitative aptitude and measuring skills in preparation for the entrance exam you want to take. You will feel more comfortable with the questions as you spend more time answering them.

Progression and Series Specific Preparation Tips

  • Set aside time for each section and revisit the fundamental concepts on a daily basis.
  • Make a list of all the important formulas and practise them on a daily basis.
  • Revise the formulas and use them in all of the sample questions or the previous year’s question.
  • Give daily mock tests on the topic to gain a better concept of the types of questions that might be given on the exam.
